Thanks for the great post! I linked it over at my blog. I had the honor of meeting a WWII vet recently. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, and made it into Germany before he was wounded, two weeks before the Battle of the Bulge. He had quite the story to tell! We need to thank these heroes before they all gone. They indeed have my undying gratitude!

I had the honor and privilege of meeting and shaking his hand at a Memorial Day ceremony here in Orlando several years ago.
He and the Marines who have gone before live on in the ones who serve today. So he becomes one of the immortals as has my father who fought at Guadalcanal, New Britain and Peleliu.

This news has come as a complete surprise to me. I have just finished reading his autobiography and was planning on mailing him a short note with my impressions. I google his name to find a mailing address and find that he has passed two months ago.

My wife and I currently "parent" a young United States Marine and a copy of Jack's book will be in the mail by tonight for this particular Marine.

I believe that this particular book, "Indestructible," should be mandatory reading for all Marine recruits.
