The common sense candidate: That's me!

CAUTION: What you are about to read may make some sense to a majority of you and offend only members of Congress.

You know I was just pondering this thought...ok, daydreaming. Is it too late to run for Congress? I mean...what steps do I have to take to run anyway? Hey, I can do this! Some say I have good common sense. I own a couple of suits, I'm a veteran, no arrests, I'm married, and I have a pretty good sense for when someone is feeding me some B.S. My platform will have some simple themes: "lower taxes...now" and my favorite, "off-shore drilling is ok by me!" I like it! It's simple, cuts to the chase, and I know drilling for oil off-shore is ok, because the Chinese are doing it off Florida right now. So I say, if the Chinese think drilling in our backyard is OK, what the heck! I might even suggest we drill 50 miles off their coast and be obnoxious about it in the process. You know call up CNN, NBC, have them do a piece about it. Oops, I'm digressing here, sorry about that!

My campaign slogan would probably go something like this. "Vote for the Common Sense Candidate," which would be me of course. Than I'd run some ads in my congressional district which would parrot that familiar movie line: "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" Yeah, that's it! That's the ticket! I'm on a roll now! One of my favorite movies is Mr. Smith Goes to Washington starring Jimmy Stewart. He had problems with people listening. They had their own agenda too as I recall. Hmmm!

Do you ever feel that Congress isn't listening? I saw a poll a couple of weeks back that had Congress ranked below HMOs. How low can you get? Below HMOs! That's why I think I have a chance. I can demonstrate my bond with my constituents by running a low cost campaign and fault my opponent every time he runs an ad about what a great job he's doing. Once I'm elected, I'll rent a simple apartment. Not like that Congresswoman from California who demonstrated the hazards of having adjustable rate mortgages on four homes and then defaulting on all four. I don't need four mortgages...one's enough for me!

Next, you're thinking: "Is he a Republican or a Democrat? Neither, I'm just an ordinary guy who wants to be your voice in Washington for common sense. I get it! The issue of over-priced gas is real and can only be remedied through increased supply and an aggressive campaign to develop alternative energy options in the future to eventually replace oil as our primary source of energy.

News commentators over the last couple of months have mentioned that had we started drilling off-shore 10 years ago we wouldn't be facing this price-gouging dilemma today. Well what are we going to do - wait another 10 years until Congress finally wakes up? Yes, supply does matter and incumbents in Congress need to act NOW or getting elected to Congress won't be problem for a guy like me. You see, I've been to the gas station and stood by the pump...so yes, I get it!

Thanks so much for the information on Colin Powell. He is one of my heroes and a great man who has contributed so much to America.

I just found this very cool web site that has so much information on everything. There are thousands of pages and they have a page with tons of Colin Powell quotes. These quotes really give insight into the man.

I recommend you read these quotes and also check out this awesome military web site. The site is: http://www.militaryconnection.com.

When you read them, there is such a sense of this man who is so smart and truly a hero. I wish he was on someone's short list for VP too.
